I love new beginnings. I love clean slates and do-overs and do-betters and the excitement of the unknown. I have spent every fall of my whole life starting school with a new beginning, first as a student, then as a teacher for 22 years. This year I am embarking on something completely different. I was awarded the Christa McAuliffe Sabbatical and my year will be spent being a creativity coach in NH schools. Going into this year has felt a lot like being on the edge of a cliff, ready to take a step into an uncertain adventure, or being on an unmarked trail I that am not sure where it will lead or branch off. I know I am ready. I have everything I need for this journey, and if there is something I need, I will find it or ask for it or learn it. I imagine that Christa McAuliffe must have felt that mix of excitement and apprehension and exhilaration and fearlessness when she signed up for her new adventure. I am so grateful for Christa’s “Reach for the Stars” spirit and because she dared to dream big, she has made space for me to spread my wings. And so I fly to schools all over NH to collaborate with teachers and work with students all under the mission of cultivating creativity in their lives! This new beginning is one I will remember forever.
